Opportunity to Meet Your Officers: Community Invited to Coffee with a Cop

Members of the Santa Fe Police Department invite residents to come together for casual conversation to discuss community issues, build relationships, and further open lines of communication between Santa Fe Police and the people we serve.

“This is a perfect opportunity to get to know officers individually, learn about their interests, talents and the reasons they choose to serve Santa Fe,” Santa Fe Police Chief Eric Garcia said. “It is also an opportune time to ask questions about the department’s tactics, bring forward problems in certain neighborhoods or simply learn more about our operating procedures.”

The majority of the public’s contact with law enforcement happens during emergencies or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for relaxed, one-on-one interactions.

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

The program aims to advance the practice of community policing and further improve relationships between police officers and residents one cup of coffee at a time.
